MUMBAI: A Mumbai court on Monday granted bail to Suraj Pancholi on a surety of Rs 50,000 in Jiah Khan suicide case, the court, however, asked him to surrender his passport.

The 21-year-old Pancholi was arrested on June 11, 2013 on charges of abetting actress Jiah khan’s suicide.

Pancholi’s family and lawyers say there is no evidence that links him to Jiah Khan’s hanging at her home on June 3, 2013.

Six days later, her family supplied a letter to the police in which the troubled actress appeared to be venting about a romantic relationship.

The letter does not name Pancholi or anyone else.

Pancholi is the son of Bollywood stars Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab.

Jiah Khan, born in New York before moving to London and then Mumbai, made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with the controversial film Nishabd, playing a teenager in love with her best friend’s much older father, played by Amitabh Bachchan.

She went on to star alongside actor Aamir Khan in the blockbuster Ghajini.
