KARACHI: The moon marking the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan was not sighted  anywhere across the country on Tuesday as a result of which the fasting month would now begin from July 11 (Thursday) in Pakistan, Chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman announced.

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman said that the crescent moon which marks the new lunar month was not sighted on Tuesday night and that Thursday (July 11) would as a result be considered the first day of the dawn-to-dusk month of fasting.

Earlier, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee with Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman in the chair met on Tuesday evening at the Met Office in Karachi to decide about the sighting or otherwise of the Ramadan moon.

The meetings of the zonal committees were also held at their respective headquarters.
