ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Thursday that a committee should be constituted to investigate allegations of rigging in the May 11 general elections and furnish proposals for electoral reforms.

Speaking on the floor of National Assembly on Thursday, the interior minister said that the committee should be given a timeframe of one month to complete its findings and proposals.

Nisar further said that the committee should be fully authorized to summon former caretaker Prime Minister and caretaker Chief Ministers in order to expose the truth to the public.

The interior minister said that strict action should be taken against those responsible and MNAs elected through rigging should also be disqualified.

The federal interior minister further said that the government has imposed ban on the issuance of new arms licenses in a bid to improve overall law and order situation in the country.

Chaudhry Nisar said over 70,000 arms licenses were issued by the previous government which contributed to worsening of law and order situation. He said old arms licenses will go under review and new computerized NADRA licenses will be issued replacing the old ones.
