ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Wednesday that the failed suicide attack that was carried out at a Shia mosque in Bhara Kahu was planned in North Waziristan.

A suicide bomber targeted a Shia mosque on the outskirts of Islamabad in Bhara Kahu area last week but could not explode himself due to timely interception by a private security guard.

The accused wanted to target a large gathering during Eid but could not do so due to tight security which is when he turned towards Bhara Kahu, Nisar told the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The interior minister said eight individuals including Afghan refugees and a woman suspected to be involved in the incident had been identified.

Nisar said five of the suspects had been arrested while three were in North Waziristan.

Talking about the Islamabad incident, Nisar said there was still no link uncovered between Sikander and a militant group.

The interior minister said doctors had not given permission to interrogate Sikander and efforts were underway to gather all information so a conclusion to the incident could be reached.
