MOSCOW: The two-day first strategic dialogue between Pakistan and Russia began in Moscow on Wednesday, marking a new phase in relationship between the two countries that have been characterized by a long history of estrangement.

The strategic dialogue was held at the level of foreign secretaries during which both sides noted with satisfaction the growing understanding between the two countries and discussed in detail the state of bilateral relations.

Both the side reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening and diversifying the bilateral relationship to their mutual benefit. They agreed on the need for maintaining high-level contacts with view to sustaining the present momentum in bilateral cooperation.

Moreover, both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues. The two sides agree to continue to work closely in this regard. They also exchanged views on expanding trade and investment relations and cooperation in the field of energy and power generation.

Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani led the Pakistani side while the Russian side was led by First Deputy Minister Vladimir Gennadievich Titov of the Russian Foreign Office.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russian Federation Alamgir Babur and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov also participated in the dialogue.
