ISLAMABAD: Major political parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)  and Awami National Party (ANP), have strongly condemned recent increase in the prices of c products terming it ‘cruelty towards the people.

PTI Chief Imran Khan said that his party would protest against this cruelty in the parliament.

ANP and MQM leaders also strongly criticized the government for hike in the prices of petroleum products.

Yesterday, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued notification regarding the hike in prices of petroleum products after finance ministry gave a go-ahead to a summary in this connection.

Following the notification, the petrol surged by Rs.4.64 to Rs.109.14 per liter. High-speed diesel also scaled up Rs.3.57/lit to Rs.113.33/lit.

Similarly, the price of light-speed diesel also went up to Rs.98.43 up Rs.2.31. Kerosene oil price also soared by Rs.4.71; its new price now stands at Rs.105.99 per liter.

The price of high octane also perched on the record level at Rs.138.33 with fresh hike of Rs.5.89.

These POL prices have come into effect from the midnight of September 1.

The distraught people say the new enhanced prices of petroleum products will trigger the prices of commodities of daily use.
