Asia33rd session of D-8 begins in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The two-day meeting of the Developing eight (D-8) nations began on Monday in Islamabad.

The 33rd session of the D-8 was inaugurated by Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs.

Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia and Nigeria are attending the event which will review progress in intra-D-8 cooperation in several areas in the context of road-map of cooperation from 2008 to 2018.

During the D-8 Summit held in Islamabad on 22 November 2012, Pakistan assumed the chairmanship of the D-8 until 2014.

The organization was established in 1997 and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, as one of the founding leaders, had attended the inaugural summit in Istanbul.
