PESHAWAR: A strong security plan for churches and other places of worship would be evolved in a few days, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said, hours after a brutal attack in a church in Peshawar that left at least over 80 people dead.

The security cordon of places of worship of minorities was being reviewed as terrorists considered them soft targets, the minister told reporters at Lady Reading Hospital after inquiring about the health of the injured of the twin church blasts.

The minister said that the federal and provincial governments would supplement and complement each other in this regard.

On Sunday, two suicide bombers wreaked havoc with two consecutive blasts amongst hundreds of innocent Christian worshippers outside an old church in Peshawar, killing 81 killed persons and wounding over 180 others.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s brutal attack sparked outrage across the country with protests in major cities and towns.

A demonstration by charged youths in Peshawar was followed by large-scale protests, some of them violent, in parts of Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rahimyar Khan, Hyderabad, Nawabshah and Quetta.

The protesters called for exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the terrorist act and urged the government to provide protection to the Christian community.
