KABUL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Hamid Karzai will meet next week in London to discuss how to end years of insurgency in the region, the Afghan President’s spokesman said on Saturday.
The meeting will be held between the two leaders on the occasion of a summit hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Aimal Faizi, a spokesman for Afghan President, said that during the meeting Karzai will seek an explanation from Pakistani premier on the whereabouts of former Taliban second-in-command Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and how Pakistan can facilitate direct talks between him and the High Peace Council.
Pakistani authorities on September 20 announced to release Baradar in order to further facilitate the Afghan reconciliation process, but he is still kept in a safe house and is closely watched by his Pakistani handlers.
