ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday dismissed Senate Opposition’s protest as mere ‘hue and cry’ over facts and figures presented to the lawmakers by the federal government about causalities in terrorism-related incidents.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led opposition in the Senate staged protest outside the Parliament today and held its token meeting there in the presence of media persons, alleging that the government provided wrong data to the house last week about deaths in terrorism-related incidents.
In his response to the opposition claims, the interior minister vowed to get the date rechecked. The minister criticized opposition’s conduct.
“They have unduly raised this issue and making hue and cry despite my assurance that the data provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is accurate, but still it can be reviewed,” Nisar said, suggesting that a committee of opposition members should be constituted to check the data.
The interior minister said his conduct in the House has been according to the norms of Parliament.
“I have never taken it as a matter of ego and am ready for my accountability at any forum,” Nisar said.
