Allama Nasir Abbas’s body handed over to family, funeral prayer to be held today

LAHORE: The protesters staging a sit-in to protest the killing of a Shia cleric since last night dispersed peacefully from Mall road in Lahore after the funeral prayer of Allama Nasir Abbas Multani was offered outside the Governor House on Monday.

A large number of people took party in the funeral of Allama Nasir Abbas. Syed Ali Hussain Qumi led the funeral prayer. The body of slain Shia cleric will be sent by helicopter to Multan where he will be buried.

Earlier, his body was handed over to his family after his autopsy was completed. The body was shifted to Qasr-i-Batool Shadman from Jinnah Hospital amidst tight policy security. According to the initial report of the post mortem, the cleric received five bullets in his head and chest.

On Sunday night, unknown gunmen on motorcycles gunned down Tehreek-i-Nifaz-i-Fiqh Jafaria (TNFJ) leader Allama Nasir Abbas Multani near FC College underpass in Lahore as was going to his residence after attending a Majlis at Qaumi Markaz Shah Jamal.

His killing triggered a strong protest as a large number of his followers protested outside Shaikh Zayed Hospital where cleric’s body had been shifted and later they marched towards the Governor House and staged a sit-in.

Police registered Allama Nasir Abbas’s murder case in Garden Town police station in Lahore. The case was registered against two unidentified motorbike riders under sections terrorism and murder on the complaint of the driver of Shia cleric.
