PM Nawaz briefed about foreign elements’ involvement in recent terror attacks

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was given a briefing by the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif about the recent terrorist attacks in the country and about the involvement of foreign elements in these incidents.

A high-level meeting was held with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair on the security situation prevailing in the country at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Thursday.

The meeting also focused on making intelligence work more effective to curb the menace of terrorism. Moreover, important decisions were made in the meeting to deal with terrorists.

The sources said that the army chief, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Major General Amir Riaz, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) General Zahirul Islam were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, a preliminary report on terrorist incidents in the country was presented. The sources said that evidence in the report suggested that foreign elements had a hand in the recent terrorist attacks.

Earlier, the prime minister and the army chief held an important meeting and discussed issues of national importance including the recent wave of terrorist attacks in the country, a spokesman of the prime minister house said.

The sources said that the DGMO Major General Amir Riaz was also present at the meeting, adding that he apprised the prime minister of ongoing operations against militants.

The meeting also considered possible action against terrorists whereas the prime minister was briefed about the forces behind the recent incidents of terrorism.
