Taliban not willing to hold talks with govt committee in North Waziristan: Ibrahim

ISLAMABAD: Professor Ibrahim Khan, a key member of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) negotiating committee, said that the Taliban are not willing to hold talks with the government committee in North Waziristan.

Talking to media, Ibrahim said that the Taliban wanted to hold talks outside of North Waziristan and the government committee should decide on a location soon. He urged the government committee to move the dialogue process further without wasting any time.

Ibrahim said that the dialogue process will not stop even if the Taliban’s proposals of army withdrawal from two districts of South Waziristan and the releases of non-combatant prisoners are not implemented.

Meanwhile, the head of the TTP negotiating committee Maulana Samiul Haq told reporters that there is no deadlock in the dialogue process. He said that discussions were underway to finalise the location of the meeting between the TTP and the government committee.

Maulana Sami said that the government committee did not want to visit Waziristan for talks, while the Taliban did not want to hold dialogue inside government buildings.
