Sindh lawmakers pass resolution against threats to Bilawal

KARACHI: A day after Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in one of his tweets claimed to have received a threatening letter from the banned Lashkar-e-Jahngvi (LeJ), the Sindh Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the threatening letter.

The resolution was presented by the PPP’s lawmaker in the provincial assembly Abdul Sattar, which the house passed unanimously.

On the occasion, the speaker of the Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani said that the situation had become clear after the threats to the PPP chairman and added that action should be taken against those ‘terrorists’ who had been identified.

The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Irfanullah Khan Marwat said that the threatening letter to Bilawal was an attempt to sabotage the dialogue process between the government and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The PML-N lawmaker further said that every time steps were taken for the improvement of the country such conspiring elements became active.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the threats by the LeJ to the PPP chairman and directed the IG Punjab Police to contact Bilawal and launch a swift probe into the incident.

The PPP chairman, in the tweet, also threatened to hold the Punjab government responsible for sheltering the banned militant outfit and refusing to take any action against them in case an attack was launched against him.
