Peace talks: Govt, Taliban dialogue committees review progress

ISLAMABAD: A joint meeting of the government and Taliban dialogue committees was held at the Punjab House in Islamabad on Saturday with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the chair, during which they reviewed progress in the recently held direct dialogue between the government team and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Shura.

The sources said that matters relating to the extension in ceasefire and release of non-combatants also came under consideration during the meeting.

Later talking to media persons, the chief of the Taliban negotiation committee Maulana Samiul Haq said that agenda for further talks with the TTP Shura would be set during the next few days.

Maulana Sami said that the next round of talks would be held after determining the venue and date of the meeting.

To a question, he said that there was no deadlock in the talks, adding that progress has been made in the dialogue process.

Earlier, the interior minister called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed the future strategy for dialogue with the Taliban and steps required for peace in the country.
