SARAJAVEO: At least 20 persons were killed while tens of thousands fled their homes on Saturday due to flash floods triggered by torrential rains across the Balkan Peninsula.

The flooding, which meteorologists described as the worst in the past 120 years, left 12 persons dead in Bosnia and 8 in Serbia.

The media reports said that tens of thousands were evacuated and over 250,000 households were left without power across the Balkans.

The emergency crews and soldiers were using boats and helicopters to rescue thousands of people trapped in the region.
