IndiaModi invites Nawaz Sharif to attend swearing-in ceremony

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been invited to attend the Indian Prime Minister-elect Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on May 26 while it is likely that the Pakistani premier will accept the invitation.

Nawaz Sharif was the first state head to congratulate Modi soon after the results were declared in Modi’s favour. During his conversation, Sharif invited Modi to visit Pakistan.

Modi has also invited heads of state of neighbouring countries in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) for his oath-taking ceremony on Monday.

Narendra Modi will be sworn-in as India’s 14th Prime Minister on May 26 after his party won 282 seats in the 545-member Lok Sabha in the recent elections, becoming the first non-Congress party since independence to get a majority on its own.
