British govt allows Pakistani high commission in London access to Altaf Hussain

LONDON: The Pakistani high commissioner to the UK Imran Mirza is on his way to a London hospital to meet the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain after the British government allowed the Pakistani High Commission  access to the MQM Chief.

Meanwhile, the federal information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed told media in Islamabad that Altaf was issued the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis as well as a Pakistani passport.

Earlier, it was reported that the British government refused a request made by the Pakistani government to grant consular access to the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain because he is a British citizen.

The Foreign Office sources said on Wednesday that Pakistani high commission in London have contacted to British authorities regarding access to the MQM Chief on the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The commission also sought details of the case against Altaf Hussain.

Separately, the procedure for Altaf Hussain’s angiography began at a hospital in London on Thursday.

The MQM Chief was admitted at a London hospital after he was arrested by Scotland Yard on suspicion of money laundering on Tuesday.
