ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Friday that electricity theft and line losses caused Rs90 billion loss to Pakistan over the last five years, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

“A big mafia was behind the huge electricity theft,” Tasnim Qureshi, State Minister for Water and Power, told the house.

The session, which was being chaired by Chairman Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, was informed by the ministry in written that FESCO, GEPCO, LESCO, MEPCO, IESCO, SEPCO, HESCO, PEPCO, and KESCO lost Rs600 million, Rs360 million, Rss2.35billion, Rs280 million, Rs3.66 billion, Rs7.47 billion, Rs16.17 billion, Rs59billion and Rs90 lost respectively on account of theft and line losses.

Qureshi said that by his efforts the line losses were cut to 20.5 while Petroleum Advisor Dr. Asim Hussain said the number of CNG stations should be decreased in the county, especially in Punjab.
