LAHORE, Pakistan: The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) led by Dr Tahirul Qadri is likely to be banned in the country as a decision has been taken in this regard by the federal government at a high level meeting held in Lahore, the media reports said citing police sources.
The development came following the speeches by Dr Tahirul Qadri in which he had incited his followers and other people against the government, waging war against the state and indulging in incidents of ransacking, arson and terrorism, the sources said.
The sources said that the procedure to be adopted in declaring the PAT as a banned organisation would be in the light of the anti-terrorism act, meaning that its fund-raising campaigns would also come under scrutiny.
LHC accepts petition for hearing seeking ban on PAT
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) full bench has accepted a petition for hearing which seeks ban on the PAT.
The court summoned the record of Dr Tahirul Qadri’s addresses during last two months and issued notices to the Punjab government and the PAT for a detailed reply.
