PM Nawaz meets army chief, discusses political situation

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has held a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and other military leadership in Islamabad on Tuesday, and discussed current political and security situation of the country.

The meeting was held a few hours before the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned entrance into the Red Zone.

The sources said that the civil and military leaders discussed the current political turmoil and security situation due to the on-going PTI and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) protests and probably march towards Red Zone in the federal capital.

The two sides also held discussion over the military operation Zarb-e-Azb against the militants in the North Waziristan tribal region.

Earlier, the Pakistan army reportedly put its troops in Islamabad on ‘high alert’ in case of any untoward incident takes place.

The Pakistan army has been controlling the federal capital’s security since August 1 for three months under article 245.
