Govt asks Pakistan army to play its role in resolving current political crises

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has asked the Pakistan army to play its role as a mediator and help in resolving the current political crises in the country.

In a statement on Thursday, the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the government has asked the Pakistan army for the military’s role in the current security and political situation in the country.

The interior minister said that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif in response expressed his agreement on the army’s positive role in the country’s prevailing political situation.

His statement came after the COAS called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad and exchanged views on the present political deadlock.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed for taking necessary steps to resume the dialogue. They also agreed for the resolution of the issue in the best interest of the country at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri also announced while addressing the Inqilab March participants in Islamabad that the prime minister has requested the army chief to play a role in reaching an agreement with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the PAT.

Tahirul Qadri said that the COAS has officially asked the PAT that if we accept him as a guarantor.

The PAT leader further said that the army chief has given us 24 hours to devise procedure for settlement with the government.

On appeal of COAS, delaying our action for 24 hours: Imran Khan

On the other hand, the PTI leader Imran Khan said that they are delaying their next course of action for 24 hours on the appeal of the COAS.

Imran Khan that the COAS General Raheel Sharif will become guarantor and he has sought 24 hours to sort out issues.
