ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 280 persons have been killed while more than 500 others have sustained injuries across the country due to rains and floods, the National Disaster Management (NDMA) said.

In a statement, a spokesman for the NDMA said that more than two million people have been affected in the ongoing crisis.

Nawaz Sharif vows complete rehabilitation of flood victims

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said while addressing the flood affected people at Athara Hazari in Jhang district on Saturday that the government will not rest till complete rehabilitation of flood affected people.

The prime minister said that the federal and provincial governments are working together for the relief and assistance of the flood victims. He said that this is not a favor but responsibility of the government to extend helping hand to the calamity hit people.

Sharif said that those whose houses have been damaged by the flood will be fully compensated.

Earlier, the prime minister was briefed about the destruction caused by floods and the ongoing relief activities in the area. He was informed that the flood affected 104 villages in Athara Hazari. The flood also damaged major crops including cotton and rice.
