Pakistan receives aid offers from many friendly countries for flood victims

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for finance Ishaq Dar said on Wednesday that many friendly countries and international agencies have offered assistance to Pakistan for people of flood affected areas.

In a meeting with the Charge D’Affairs of Saudi Embassy Jassim Al Khaldi in Islamabad on Wednesday, the finance minister said that the international offers will only be utilized after thorough scrutiny of the damages by the United Nations and other agencies.

The minister pointed out the task of rehabilitating the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and reconstructing houses of flood affected people of Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan would be quite huge.

But, he added, this will be completed by an independent committee formed for the joint management of reconstruction task in a fair and transparent manner.

The finance minister said that though the recent calamity has made it difficult to meet our growth targets but we are firm in our resolve to make Pakistan a success story in Asia. He said that we will achieve our growth targets in the years to come.

The Saudi Charge D’Affairs extended condolences on the colossal losses suffered by Pakistan in the areas of Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in the recent floods. He assured his country’s continued support for the assistance of flood hit people.
