Rasheed challenges Imran to debate election rigging issue in Parliament

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for information Pervez Rasheed on Wednesday challenged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to debate the issue of alleged rigging in 2013 general elections on the floor of the Parliament.

In a joint news conference along with the finance minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Wednesday evening, the information minister said that for the first time elaborate and effective measures were introduced in elections 2013 to ensure their transparency and fairness.

The information minister referred to false claims of Imran Khan vis-a-vis report of different observers regarding general elections uploaded on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) website and challenged the PTI leader to come to the Parliament to debate its contents.

The finance minister pointed out that the PML-N had no nominee in the caretaker set up while Imran Khan concurred with the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, composition of the Commission and appointment of the caretaker Prime Minister.

Ishaq Dar said that PML-N was more than willing to go for comprehensive electoral reforms and other measures to ensure greater transparency of future elections. He said that he even offered the PTI senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi to take over the Chairmanship of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms.
