Intel announces winners of the Sindh Science Fair 2014

KARACHI: Intel Pakistan on Friday concluded the Sindh Science Fair in the run-up to the Intel® International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel® ISEF), one of the world’s largest pre-college science competitions, to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvaniain May 2015, says a press release.

During the Sindh Science Fair, students from across the province presented research-based projects in the categories of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Mathematics and Physics. More than 479 students and 76 teachers from all over Sindh registered in the fair with a total of 240 projects registered. Present at the occasion was Mr. Randy L. Hatfield, Senior Policy Advisor and Manager, Sindh & Balochistan, USAID/Pakistan, US Consulate General, Karachi as the Chief Guest.

Winners of the Sindh Science Fair will be eligible to compete at the National Science Fair, which will take place in Islamabad early next year. Projects will be assessed by a panel of renowned judges, with winners eligible to compete at the 2015 Intel® ISEF which will be held from May 10thto May 15thin Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“Intel has sponsored the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for almost 2 decades now, and each year we witness tremendous talent flowing from all over the world. ISEF is a great platform for youth both academically and socially, as they interact with each other during mixers and ceremonies which helps them gain confidence and valuable experience,” said Naveed Siraj, Country Manager, Intel Pakistan. “The competition starts off at the very basic level geographically and then grows to a provincial level, after which finalists from all four provinces prove their metal on a National level and go on to represent Pakistan amongst 70 other countries internationally. I hope that the students gain more this year in terms of personal growth through healthy, constructive competition and make our country proud.”

Speaking at the occasion regarding Intel’s education efforts in Pakistan, Randy Hatfield said, “I am honored to be invited as a guest to this venture supporting talented youth in Pakistan. It gives me great joy to witness talent emerging from various areas of our country.” He further added, “Intel Pakistan has taken a brilliant step by bringing ICT in classrooms and giving students an unparalleled platform. It is through initiatives like these that our country can prosper and we can hope for a brighter future for our youth.”
