ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday rejected a request by the opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, seeking three months period for the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk was hearing the election commissioner’s appointment case in Islamabad on Thursday.
During the hearing, the court directed to complete the process of consultation for appointment of the CEC by November 13.
The apex court observed the office of the CEC is vacant since August last year.
The court also directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit its report of delimitation of constituencies by Saturday.
