KABUL, Afghanistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif reached Kabul on a day-long visit on Thursday on a formal invitation by the Afghan Army Chief Of Staff General Sher Muhammad Karimi.
His visit comes a couple of days after the US department of defence accused Pakistan in its latest report for using militant groups as ‘proxy forces’ to carry out attacks in Afghanistan.
During his visit, the COAS will hold meetings with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah, the Defense Minister Bismillah Muhammadi, the National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar and other senior military officials.
General Raheel Sharif is the second senior Pakistani official visiting Kabul following the formation of the new Afghan unity government as earlier the prime minister’s adviser on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz visited the Afghan capital last month to meet with the new Afghan leadership.
