LONDON: On the sidelines of the London Conference, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his British counterpart David Cameron and the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani held a meeting on the table of breakfast in London on Friday.

During the meeting, the three leaders discussed regional situation with particular reference to Afghanistan.

The Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah was also present on the occasion.

The London Conference on Afghanistan was held on December 4 to provide a platform for the Afghan government to set out its vision for reform and for the international community to demonstrate enduring solidarity and support for Afghanistan.

The conference was attended by the Afghan president, the British prime minister, the Pakistani prime minister and the US Secretary of State John Kerry, and many other senior leaders from around the world.

“The prime minister’s participation in the London Conference is a reflection of the importance that Pakistan attaches to international efforts for peace, stability and economic development in Afghanistan,” the Foreign Office said in a statement on December 2.

Sharif also held a meeting with the US secretary of state on the sidelines of the conference and discussed matters of mutual interest and regional situation.

During the meeting, the US secretary of state acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution and sacrifices in the war on terror while the prime minister apprised Kerry about the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb in the country’s northwestern tribal region against various outlawed militant outfits.
