Talks between govt, PTI to resume soon: Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will resume the dialogue process soon, hoping that it will help steer the country out of prevailing political crises.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Friday, the federal finance minister Ishaq Dar said that the government is ready for dialogue with the PTI, adding that talks will take place soon.

The finance minister said that the PTI would be approached on Sunday morning after return home of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from abroad.

The prime minister is currently in the United Kingdom on an official visit to attend the London Conference on Afghanistan.

Ishaq Dar said that subject to availability of members of the negotiating teams the talks can be held even on Sunday.

The minister said that dialogue is natural way forward in politics. He pointed out that that PTI has publicly expressed its desire for resumption of the talks and the government has welcomed this.

The finance minister said that the PTI should keep in mind that dialogue will have to be held in accordance with law and the constitution so that it reaches its logical conclusion.

Moreover, he said that the judicial commission cannot be formed through ordinance as is being demanded by the PTI. In that case, there are apprehensions that it would be challenged and struck down, he added.

The federal minister for finance said that an inquiry commission can be formed with mandate to investigate 2013 general elections to find out whether massive or systematic rigging took place to favour the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
