Pakistan lodges strong protest with India over killings of Rangers personnel

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office on Wednesday summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner to lodge a strong protest on the unprovoked firing of the Indian troops in the Shakargarh sector that left two Rangers personnel martyred.

Earlier in the day, two personnel of Pakistani Rangers were killed when the Indian border forces (BSF) resorted to unprovoked firing ahead of a flag meeting ceremony in the Shakargarh sector of Narowal district.

A Punjab Rangers spokesman said that both jawans namely Naik Riaz and Lance Naik Safdar were injured in the firing by the Indian forces but later they succumbed to their injuries.

“The Government of Pakistan strongly condemned the action of the BSF troops, which is in violation of the commitment by both sides to maintain ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

The statement said that the Indian government has been urged to investigate the incident, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure maintenance of peace and tranquillity along the LoC and the Working Boundary.
