LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday announced names from the opposition side for the eight-member Parliamentary Committee to decide the candidate for caretaker Prime Minister, as government and Opposition have yet to reach consensus on the matter, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

The PML-N’s nominees for the parliamentary committee include Pervez Rashid‚ Ishaq Dar‚ Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Khawaja Asif.

The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has already sent the names of PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PPP leaders Farooq H. Naek and Khurshid Shah, and ANP leader Ghulam Ahmed Bilour to the speaker as its members for the parliamentary committee.

The PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif has summoned a meeting of his party leaders today (Tuesday) to discuss issues of caretaker setup in Federation and Provinces.

Nawaz has also directed Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to try to remove reservations of JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding caretaker Prime Minister.

The PPP-led government and the opposition have just one day to reach an agreement over a name for the post of caretaker prime minister before the process for selection goes to a parliamentary committee.

Under the constitution, if parties fail to evolve a consensus over the issue then after 12:00 am tonight the matter would be referred to an eight-member bipartisan parliamentary committee.

In case, the parliamentary committee also fails to nominate a consensus candidate within three days, the matter will automatically go to the Election Commission, which will have to finalise one name out of four, two each from the PPP and the PML-N, for the post of caretaker prime minister within two days.
