Two more convicted terrorists hanged in Multan jail

MULTAN, Pakistan: Two more convicted terrorists were hanged in the Central Jail Multan on Wednesday morning, bringing the total number of executions so far to nine since moratorium on death penalty was lifted last month.

The terror convicts Ahmed Ali alias Sheeshnag and Ghulam Shabbir, belonging to the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba, were executed at 6:00 am.

Ahmed Ali, a resident of Shorkot tehsil in Jhang district, was convicted of killing a police official and his gunman whereas Ghulam Shabbir, a resident of Talamba area of Khanewal district, was involved in the killing of three persons in Multan.

Their executions were carried out amid strict security measures as army personnel were deployed outside the jail while elite force personnel were positioned inside the prison premises.

Since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted a six-year moratorium on death penalty for those convicted for terrorism, seven death row convicts have been hanged till death in Faisalabad and Peshawar jails.

The prime minister allowed the implementation of executions on December 17, a day after the deadly attack on army public school in Peshawar that left 150 persons mostly children killed.
