ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday allotted electoral symbols to different political parties for the upcoming general elections, while according to sources the elections may be held on May 9-11, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was allotted the symbol of Tiger, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) was allotted the cycle, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) was allotted the kite, and Awami National Party (ANP) was allotted the lantern.
The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) was allotted the scale as their electoral symbol, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) was allotted the Rose, and Pakistan Muslim League Like-Minded received the Leaf while Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan was allotted the missile.
Likewise, the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) was allotted the Bat, Sheikh Rasheed’s Awami Muslim League was allotted the ink pot with a pen, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was allotted the book, Balochistan National Party Awami received the Camel as their electoral symbol and the Tree was allotted to PMAP.
The decision about the allotment of symbol of arrow will be taken on the 25th of this month at a meeting of the Election Commission as three parties have requested for the symbol.
Talking to media outside the Election Commission Pakistan Peoples’ Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) leader Syed Samsam Bukhari hoped that the symbol of arrow would be allotted to PPPP.
Bukhari said the party contested the previous elections in 2002 and 2008 with the symbol of arrow and thus it is its right to get this symbol for the elections 2013.
