PTI, JI strike alliance for local bodies polls in KPK

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have agreed to jointly contest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government elections scheduled to be held in June 2015.

The agreement came during a meeting between leaders of the two parties held in Peshawar on Monday to discuss in detail the issue of local government polls in the province.

The Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly Asad Qaiser and Shah Farman represented the PTI while from the JI the provincial minister Inatullah and Professor Ibrahim took part in the talks.

During the talks, the both sides decided to field joint candidates in upcoming local bodies elections in the northwestern province. The seat to seat adjustment for the elections will be made later on.

The two parties – Imran Khan-led PTI and Sirajul Haq-led JI – are already in an alliance in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government formed following the May 2013 general elections.

Earlier in a statement issued a couple of days ago, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that schedule for the local bodies polls in the province will be issued in April while elections will take place in June.
