Pakistan says dialogue only way to resolve issues with India

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan’s high commissioner to India Abdul Basit has said that dialogue is the only way to resolve all outstanding issues between Islamabad and New Delhi including Jammu and Kashmir.

“Pakistan wants to have good relations with all neighbouring countries, including India,” the envoy said in an interview in Islamabad.

The ambassador said that Kashmir is the bone of contention between the two nuclear armed neighboring countries.

Basit said that Pakistan had condemned Mumbai attacks and wants the responsible elements to be punished. He said that Pakistan also wants result-oriented investigation into Samjhota Express incident.

The Pakistani envoy hoped that India would reciprocate to the serious efforts of Pakistan to resolve the outstanding issues with India.

On Wednesday, the Pakistani ambassador to India was called to Islamabad for urgent consultation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding the evolving situation in the region after the US President Barack Obama’s visit to New Delhi.

During the meeting with the prime minister, the ambassador briefed him about Indo-Pak relations in the wake of Obama’s visit.

The ambassador also briefed the premier on recent developments in the region including the US-India nuclear deal and its implications on strategic stability in South Asia.
