RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: A US congressional delegation led by ranking member Senate Armed Services committee Senator Jack Reed called on the Chief of Army Staff General (COAS) Raheel Sharif at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that matters of mutual interest including the military operation Zarb-e-Azb against the militants and situation in Afghanistan came under discussion during the meeting.

“The senator appreciated Pakistan’s role in counter terrorism efforts,” the ISPR said.

On Tuesday, the COAS accompanied by a high-level military delegation including the Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General Rizwan Akhtar visited Kabul.

During his day-long visit, the army chief held important meetings with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and the Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah in Kabul.

During his meeting with the Afghan president, both the leaders pledged support to each other in their fight against terrorism and vowed to restrict the use of their soil against each other. The two sides also agreed to continue the ongoing operation against militants in their respective countries.
