KARACHI, Pakistan: Pakistan’s exports will be enhanced to $50 billion during the next three years, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said while inaugurating the ninth Expo Pakistan 2015 in Karachi on Thursday.

“Pakistan is producing high quality products and services which are recognized at the international level,” he said.

The prime minister said that there are vast opportunities of investment in the country and assured the government will provide all possible facilities to the investors in order to achieve its objective of economic prosperity.

Nawaz Sharif said that the government has announced new textile policy under which textile related products will be raised to $26 billion by 2019 from the current $13 billion.

“Pakistan is a safe country both for tourism and business and offers higher returns to the investors,” Sharif said.

The premier said that the government will ensure continuation of trade and industrial policy and for this purpose a long term framework has been chalked out.

Sharif, while referring to the challenges faced by the country, reiterated the commitment to end the power outages by the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018.

The prime minister said that the government is working on several mega projects in order to also provide cheap electricity to the consumers.

Moreover, he said that Expo Pakistan provides an excellent platform to the Pakistani investors to showcase their quality products. He said that the presence of international investors in the expo also reflects their confidence on the economy of the country.

The ninth edition of the four-day Expo Pakistan is being organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

First held in 2005, the last Expo Pakistan held in 2013 was highlighted by the participation of a large number of local and foreign buyers who settled business deals estimated at US$ 1 billion as compared to deals estimated at US$ 690 million the year before, according to the ExpoPakistan website.
