ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sent an advice to President Mamnoon Hussain for delaying the execution of condemned prisoner Saulat Mirza for 30 days.

The 30-day postponement will begin from April 1, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister House on Friday.

On Tuesday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi issued new death warrants for the former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Saulat Mirza for execution on April 1.

Mirza was scheduled to be hanged to death in Balochistan’s Machh jail on March 19. However before a few hours he was to be hanged till death, his execution was delayed because of health problems on the request of jail authorities.

Saulat Mirza was sentenced to death by an ATC in May 1999 for killing the former managing director of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Shahid Hamid, his driver Ashraf Brohi and guard Khan Akbar in July 1997.
