Imran Khan asks for Rangers’ deployment for NA-246 by-poll

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has demanded deployment of Rangers for by-election in Karachi’s NA-246 constituency.

“We request the Election Commission to order deployment of Rangers in NA-246 for polls, since we don’t trust police,” Imran said while talking to newsmen in Islamabad on Thursday.

The PTI has fielded one of its founding members Imran Ismail as its candidate for the NA-246 by-election to be held on April 23.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Kanwar Naveed Jamil and the Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) Rashid Naseem will also be contesting the polls.

The PTI leader further said that the decision to attend joint session of the Parliament would be taken after intra-party consultations.

Earlier in the day, in a high level consultative meeting in Islamabad, the federal government decided to summon joint session of the Parliament on April 6 for discussion on Yemen situation.

Imran Khan said that there are two views in the party on the issue. He said that some people believe the PTI should re-join the assembly after formation of the Judicial Commission while others want a decision after verdict of the commission.

In reply to a question, Imran Khan said that Pakistan should mediate in Yemen crisis.

“We should not become party in Saudi/Yemen conflict,” Imran said.

“I fear anti-Muslim forces are dragging us into Saudi/Yemen conflict, we should play role for peace.”
