Military courts award death sentence to six terror convicts

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has confirmed the death sentence given to six hardened terrorists who were tried by the recently established military courts.

In his twitter messages on Thursday, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that the convicted criminals were involved in heinous acts of terror, manslaughter, suicide bombings and other criminal activities.

However, the DG ISPR added, they have the right to appeal before the court against this judgment.

The military courts have been set up for a period of two years as part of the national action plan against terrorism adopted on December 24 in the wake of the terror attack on the army public school in Peshawar.

In addition, the 21st constitutional amendment and the amendment in the Pakistan army act 1952 were also made to pave the way for setting up military courts in the country.
