Chinese president to address parliament’s joint session on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese President Xi Jinping will address a joint session of the Parliament in Islamabad on April 21, becoming the 18th foreign dignitary to do so.

The 61-year-old President Xi will arrive in Pakistan on April 20 for a two-day official visit, his first foreign trip in 2015.

The Chinese president will be accompanied by a large delegation including first lady Madam Peng Liyuan, senior ministers, high-level functionaries of the communist party and senior government officials.

The chief executive officers from a wide spectrum of business houses of China would also be included in the delegation.

During the visit, President Xi Jinping will meet his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain who will also host a luncheon in honour of the visiting dignitary.

The Chinese president will hold official talks with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Later, both countries would conclude a number of important agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) relating to key development projects in the infrastructure energy, and communication sectors under the ambit of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Other important agreements related to other areas will also be signed on this occasion.

President Xi Jinping will be conferred the country’s highest civil award the ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’ at a special investiture ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.

The Chinese president will also call on the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the three Services Chiefs during the visit.

During the visit, the two countries will review all aspects of their bilateral relations and also exchange views on regional issues and international developments.

President Xi Jinping’s visit would further consolidate the existing ‘all weather relations’ between Pakistan and China in all areas of importance, especially political, economic and strategic.

The visit would be the most important highlight of the ‘Pakistan-China Year of Friendly Exchanges.’
