VEHARI, Pakistan: A murder convict was hanged to death in Vehari district jail on Saturday morning after he was awarded death penalty by a local anti-terrorism court for killing a policeman during a robbery attempt in 2001.
The convict Manzoor Wasli had filed an appeal against his death sentence in the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Multan bench but that was rejected in 2008.
Later, his mercy appeal was also rejected by President Mamnoon Hussain.
Separately, two convicted rapists Sanaullah alias Billu and Abid Maqsud will be executed in Sialkot district jail on April 22.
An anti-terrorism court in Gujranwala sentenced them to death in June 1998 after they were found guilty to be involved in the gang rape of an 18-year-old girl in Sialkot’s Sambrial tehsil in August 1997.
Their black warrants were issued by the anti-terrorism court Judge Bushra Zaman.
