Cantonment board elections: 12,400 Army, Ranger personnel to perform security duty

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: At total of 12,400 troops of Pakistan Army and Ranger will be employed on security duty for local government elections in 42 cantonments boards across the country on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that troops have been requisitioned by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ISPR said that troops will ensure security and assist election commission in smooth conduct of elections.

The local government elections in cantonment areas across the country are set to take place on April 25 after a gap of 26 years.

The elections are being conducted on party basis. The election commission has finalized all the arrangements for free, fair and transparent conduct of elections in the cantonment areas.

The ECP said that voting for the elections in the cantonment boards will be held from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm without any interval.

The commission has already authorized the president officers appointed for each polling station for the conduct of local government elections in cantonment boards to exercise the powers of the magistrate first class from April 24 to 26.
