KARACHI, Pakistan: The Sindh government and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have announced to obverse a day of mourning on Thursday over massacre of members of Ismaili community in Karachi.

Earlier in the morning, at least 45 Ismaili community members were killed while more than 10 others sustained injuries when their bus came under an attack by unknown gunmen in Safora Goth area of Karachi.

The deadly attack triggered strong nationwide condemnation while the Sindh government and the MQM also called for Thursday to be a day of mourning.

In a statement on Wednesday, the party Chief Altaf Hussain requested all businesses, educational institutions and public transportation be suspended on Thursday.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and others political leader strongly condemned the incident in Karachi in which six gunmen entered a bus carrying about 60 to 65 members of the Ismaili community and opened indiscriminate fire on them.

Resultantly, 45 persons including women were killed while more than 10 others were injured.

The prime minister also sought a report from the authorities on the incident while the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah taking a strict notice of the incident suspended the SSP and SHO of the area.
