LAHORE, Pakistan: The banned militant outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Monday claimed to have killed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Rana Shamshad in Kamoke area of Gujranwala.
The PML-N lawmaker in the Punjab assembly was shot dead along with his son and a party worker by veiled gunmen on Sunday evening while the MPA was on his way home from his farmhouse in Kot Raja.
Talking to the media from an unknown location, the TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said that the attack on the legislator was carried out by militants belonging to the proscribed group.
Rana Shamshad was elected as member of the Punjab assembly from Gujranwala’s constituency PP-100 on the PML-N ticket. He also served as the provincial transport minister during the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) government in Punjab.
Following the incident, the Panjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in a message expressed grief and sorrow over the killing of the PML-N lawmaker and his son.
The Chief Minister took notice of the incident and sought a report from IG Police Punjab. He also directed to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
