PTI worker murder case: Mian Iftikhar Hussain’s remand extended

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A judicial magistrate in Nowshera on Monday further extended the remand of the Awami National Party (ANP) leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain who was arrested yesterday for his alleged involvement in killing of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker.

The ANP’s central secretary general Mian Iftikhar Hussain was arrested by police on Sunday after a PTI worker Habibullah was killed while celebrating victory of a party candidate in the local bodies election in Pabbi area of Nowshera district. The incident took place near the residence of Mian Iftikhar in Pabbi.

Following his arrest, Mian Iftikhar was produced before a judicial magistrate on duty in Nowshera who remanded him into the custody of police for a day.

On Monday, the ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain was again produced before the magistrate who handed him over to police on further judicial remand.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased youth recorded his statement before the magistrate, saying that he did not nominat Mian Iftikhar Hussain in the First Information Report (FIR) as he was not involved in murder of his son.

On the occasion, the lawyer of the ANP leader advocate Latif Afridi filed a bail application for his client.

Talking to newsmen after his appearance in the court on Sunday, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that he had no role in killing of the PTI worker.

Mian Iftikhar held the PTI responsible for killing of its worker saying that PTI workers were resorting to firing over the victory of their candidate in the elections when the incident took place.

The local government elections were held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 30 while in elections related violent incidents across the province, 10 people lost their lives while nearly 30 others were injured.
