ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has said that Pakistan is opposed to using proxies against other countries and it won’t allow any other country to use proxies against us.
In his address at a ceremony at the National Defense University (NDU) in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said that contours of future wars are fast changing.
“Our enemies are supporting terrorism to destabilize the country,” General Raheel said.
The army chief said that the Pakistan army is determined and capable to defeat nefarious designs of the enemy against the country.
Last month, the Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in a statement advocated the use of terrorism to counter terrorism from other countries.
Later in a response to his Indian Counterpart’s remarks, the Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif said that Parrikar’s statement confirmed Pakistan’s apprehensions regarding Indian involvement in terrorism in Pakistan and added that the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was fighting Indian proxy war against Pakistan.
Raheel Sharif further said that Kashmir is an unfinished agenda of the partition, adding that Pakistan and Kashmir are inseparable.
The COAS said that Pakistan desires just resolution of Kashmir dispute in the light of United Nations resolutions and aspirations of Kashmiri people for lasting peace and stability in the region.
In June last year, Pakistan’s military launched a full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb in the restive tribal region as part of efforts to eliminate militancy in the country.
Referring to achievements made in Zarb-e-Azb, the COAS said that the successes in the operation have created space for decisive surge against terrorists in urban areas.
The army chief said that enhanced civil-military coordination has become even more critical to achieve final success in the war on terror.
