Supreme Court orders re-election in NA-19 Haripur

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered re-election in NA-19 Haripur, a constituency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from where the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Omar Ayub Khan is currently holding the seat.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja gave the verdict on Friday in response to petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Raja Amir Zaman Khan.

In May 2013 general elections, Amir Zaman was declared winner from NA-19 Haripur against Omar Ayub after recounting of votes with a margin of 23 votes. But late, an election tribunal in Abbottabad had ordered re-polling at seven polling stations of the constituency.

As a result of re-poll at seven polling stations of NA-19 Haripur held in January 2014, Omer Ayub won the National Assembly seat from there by securing 2,852 votes against his rival Amir Zaman who bagged 2,263 votes.
