During the meeting, the two leaders would hold discussions on enhancement of bilateral relations, and global and international issues of mutual interest.

“Pakistan deeply appreciates the personal contribution to the growth and expansion of Pakistan-Turkey relations under the sagacious leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” the statement said.

“Pakistan relations with Turkey have seen tremendous improvement and dynamism in the last few years.”

Erdogan had earlier visited Lahore and Islamabad in December 2013 as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey. It was his seventh visit to Pakistan in the last 10 years, signifying substantial growth and strengthening of relations under his government.

“This would be his first visit to Islamabad as the President of Turkey,” the foreign office said.

The foreign office said that since the assumption of office by Nawaz Sharif’s government, bilateral relations have acquired a new direction and dynamism.

It said that there is eagerness on both sides to translate our historic and cordial relations into a durable strategic and economic partnership.
